Oppression by Humanization Oppression by Humanization
Well I think this was definitely my best painting for IB because not only was it my first time using oil paint (i think i did pretty well :P) but also because of the meaning behind the piece which i just love!

So what this picture is basically about is Palestine and how the Palestinians are oppressed and how many of them are objectified by eliminating their identity and culture because of the oppression; which is why this guy is wearing a paper mask that hides his face, the most important part of a persons body which sets them apart from everyone else basically and also why his body is black and white and lacks life and color. but even though they are objectified and have lost much of their identity they are still fighting and trying to break through this, which is why there are parts of the Palestinian Koffiya on the paper bag which symbolize the true Palestinian identity as well as the Palestinian cause and resistance.

well yeah I needed to know all that stuff to write in my book lol so yeah I'd love to hear what you think! :D

:peace:

i graduated ib but my school didn't offer ib art... so i'm not sure what they are looking for. your concept is solid i think that the body language of the figure could have been utilized somewhat better (is the head sagging downwards, etc). also i think that you have another opportunity to do something with the background- maybe some vague imagery or something- i don't think the yellow color is contributing too much

well basically for IB art you had to get inspiration from other artists and use it in the context of a theme you have chosen, mine was masks. The artist I used for this piece relied on minimalism and like having one figure whose body was bare and his face was either distorted, covered or a number of other things. So I chose to cover his face with something symbolic of Palestine and have his body black and white (as in void of emotion, or anything sort of human) and contrast it with a dull and also sort of dying background which served to make the body stand out. But I do like the idea of having the face tilted, it would have been actually pretty cool, too bad I've already graduated lol =D
Thank you!

I too took some IB courses. (i didnt take art though)

I was enrolled in IB Calculus and IB Pre-Calc (i had to audit calculus it was way too hard for me once we hit rate of expansion my mind *imploded*)

As for this piece wonderfully done :D. I like the message aswell only thing that throws me off is the black and white inside the paper bag!!!

But then again... Maybe that is supposed to throw you off?

Good job on this.

ahaha yeah because in IB art we had to like take inspiration and ideas from other artists and this other artist had done something similar with a paper bag and put on it something symbolic of the people that were occupied and had to wear the paper bag over their head.
Glad you like it! :D

Yea that would be a challenege. I couldnt see taking somones elses work and going off them that would be difficult for me. Although its easier for me to just think of stuff myself? I duno how that makes any sense honestly -.-

Yea i got the whole thing aswell!!! very interesting indeed.

this is very very cool. I would not have come up with the political stuff you wrote about (because I'm not into it ... :ashamed:). The painting fascinates me!
